The Board, Executive and Staff of Indigenous Business Australia (IBA) express our sorrow at the passing of Dr Bonita Mabo AO and we extend our deep condolences to the Mabo Family and their community.
Dr Mabo was another in a long line of great female First Nations leaders.
An activist and advocate for social justice and human rights, Dr Mabo was instrumental in the push for telling the truth about the long overdue recognition of native title – securing rights which have assisted so many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities around Australia to achieve economic independence.
Economic independence is at the heart of the work carried out by IBA, and we are reminded on a daily basis about Dr Mabo’s powerful contribution to Australia.
With great vision for the cause of justice to all, passion for the community, and an understanding of the importance of education, Dr Mabo’s legacy will live on.
