Organisations Confirming Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Descent

Applicants who apply to IBA for a loan or other financial assistance are required to provide evidence of their Aboriginality or Torres Strait Islander descent.

Usually this evidence will consist of a statutory declaration completed by the applicant and a document such as IBA’s Aboriginality or Torres Strait Islander Descent form (PDF 328KB, new window) – executed by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander organisation confirming that the applicant is of Indigenous descent, identifies as and is recognised by his or her community as an Aboriginal person or Torres Strait Islander.

Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations

The Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (previously the Registrar of Aboriginal Corporations and Registrar of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations) is an Australian Government statutory office appointed by the Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (external website, new window).

Corporations registered by the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (external website, new window) may, subject to the organisation’s individual policy, confirm an applicants descent.

This is by no means an exhaustive list and it will be updated regularly as IBA recognises more organisations.
