Indigenous Economic Development Strategy

The Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations and the then Minister for Indigenous Affairs launched the Australian Government's Indigenous Economic Development Strategy in November 2005. This strategy contains eight work and four asset and wealth creation initiatives, with IBA contributing primarily through the following asset and wealth creation initiatives:

  • Private sector involvement in home ownership and business development;
  • Coordinated economic development on land;
  • Investment rules to improve returns from trusts and encourage investment of income from land; and
  • Skills to realise economic outcomes.

The Indigenous Economic Development Strategy also provides a framework for discussions with State and Territory governments about ways we can work together to improve the economic wellbeing of Indigenous Australians.
