Delivering Regional Innovative and Indigenous Vibrant Economies
In 2008-2009 Indigenous Business Australia (IBA) signed a memorandum of understanding with Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd, BlueScope Steel Limited (external website, new window) and Sinclair Knight Merz (external website, new window) to form the Delivering Regional Innovative and Indigenous Vibrant Economies (DRIIVE) consortium.
DRIIVE was formed in response to the significant funding being provided through the Government’s Nation Building Economic Stimulus Package and the Remote Indigenous Housing National Partnership Agreement.
Recognising the role that industry can play as an economic driver in regional and remote Indigenous communities, DRIIVE’s aim is to secure contracts to deliver residential, commercial and civil construction projects in those locations.
The consortium represents a coalition of industry leaders capable of delivering any type of construction project. IBA and its DRIIVE partners recognise that by combining their individual expertise and resources, they will create more opportunities to develop innovative commercial and social infrastructure projects that will benefit remote and regional Indigenous communities.
DRIIVE projects across the manufacturing, civil and construction industries aim to:
- focus on the transfer of skills and assets back to regional communities
- create conditions that will support sustainable economic growth in regional areas
- be commercially sustainable for all partners
- deliver value for money and predicable project outcomes for the client
- build and develop vibrant Indigenous economies in regional areas
- support the Australian economy through the use of Australian made products and the engagement of local suppliers.
