A joint venture between Indigenous Business Australia (IBA) and Leighton Contractors has been selected as preferred proponent for the first phase of the $220 million Ord-East Kimberley Expansion Project in Western Australia.
The construction contract will see the joint venture build 19km of irrigation channel, a 13km road extension and irrigation control structures.
This project will be supported by a number of Indigenous and local employment and business programs which IBA will work closely with to ensure they are able to take advantage of this significant opportunity.
IBA Chair Dr Dawn Casey said that IBA is looking forward to working with the State Government, the Miriuwung Gajerrong (MG) traditional owners and Leighton Contractors on
this exciting project to provide sustainable economic opportunities for Indigenous people from this substantial investment by the State Government.
